Unclutterer on Rock Band Clutter

Unclutterer posts some interesting thoughts about the amount of clutter caused by Rock Band, a very popular video game this Christmas.

The fact that this game requires you to store all sorts of controls for each of the instruments makes me wince, too. I’m a friend of uncluttering, no question, and musical clutter is the pinnacle of it all.

If you’re trying to rock the house, why not play a real “Legendary Fender Stratocaster” (click the “instruments” button at the bottom of the Rock Band website). Personally, I like the real thing better.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hater of these games (like Guitar Hero or Singstar). They make the world of musicians accessible to a wide audience, and I personally hope it moves some people to actually go and learn an instrument.

On the other hand, it over-simplifies the magnitude of mastering an instrument, and while sports work in game-form, I’m not sure music games project the necessary respect one should have for being a musician.

Long story short, I don’t want guys like this to feel they’re musicians. Maybe I’m just jealous. Maybe I’m a baby. Shoot me.
