How To Be A Metal Musician
Quick Note:
I had the honor of writing for one of b5media’s most prolific music blogs, Metal Martyr. The post I wrote describes some thoughts on the difficulties and challenges apsiring metal musicians face, and I think the tips are interesting to anyone, even if you hate metal to the death (which is a pity, because you should respect all genres).

I began the guitar at age 50 as a cure for a midlife crisis. I either stumbled on or was directed to many of the recommendations listed in the article and they are beneficial for any genre in my view. Learning favorite songs is especially beneficial as each one is a briefcase full of licks and technique. I spend a lot of time on “Crazy Train” as a training exercise for improving my speed.
Of course, the pre-requisite to duplicate your favorites is learning scales, pre-requisite to that - some good instruction….
